1.       Did I pack the same socks that will be worn.

2.       Is it late enough in the day to account for swelling.

3.       Talk to a clerk.  Describe your intended adventures and area.

4.       Ask the clerk to size the adventurers feet

5.       (shoe off)

6.       Bent the sole, look for easy flexing on widest parts

7.       Rigid shank, arch of foot

8.       Check inside and outside for workmanship

a.       Loose threads or faulty glue

b.       Rough inside edges or seams.

9.       (boots on, but unlaced)

10.   Foot far forward, does index finger barely fit between heel and back of boot. 

11.   Sit down and kick heels against floor.  Back should feel snug and comfortable.

12.   (lace up)

13.   Hold down boot and try to lift heal.  Heal inside shoe should not lift more then 1/8 inch.

14.   Poke all around with thumb on outside of boot.

a.       Toes not bumping front of shoe

b.       Is widest part of foot in the widest part of the shoe

c.       Are there any huge gaps that could lead to rubbing

15.   Walk around for 15 minutes

16.   Check on: 

a.       Return policies

b.       Trade ins for kids

c.       Boot cleaning and care
