What bird is that?

What to expect

Birds and bugs seem to hold a near hypnotic effect on young adventurers, what a great way to help them unplug, slow down, and see the beauty around them.

When I was younger, I always wanted to spot animals in the woods.  My dream was to grow up and follow them for National Geographic.  The problem was most of the cool animals came out past my bedtime.  This led to a huge interest in animal tracks and scat.  One day I was watching a street cat that had caught or found some type of rodent to eat.

A crow was frantically hopping around the cat and eventually grabbed the felines prey interest and lead the kitty on a merry chase away into the suburbs.  As soon as the cat chased the crow, several other crows appeared to pick over the cats kill.

This is one of the many amazing things birds do!  The brave crow will lead away even the fiercest of beasts to help its flock gather food.

Add to that the abundance of beautiful birds and the ease with which you can invite them into your own back yard, and I became an instant bird lover.

Our goal is to help the adventurers to see the amazing diversity that can be found in even a small city block.

Who is this class for

Any one who looks up and says, “Amazing, I wonder what that is?  We do build a bird feeder, but it is a natural one that even my youngest adventurer mostly pulled off.  Rather then focus on age or skill, point out a bird on your next walk and see how interested your little adventurer is.  If they get even a little excited, they are ready for this class.

*Warning: We do use peanut butter when making the bird feeders.  If your child has an allergy, please let us know so that we can make other arrangements. *
